Medmenham

Park Lodge have been training in Medmenham village, just outside of Marlow, since moving our Monday class there in 2006.

JUNIORS:

Junior class starts at 7pm.  As usual, there is far too much to do to cram into an hour, but a usual junior class may run like this:

- 7pm start.  Rei on.
- Warm up and breakfalls. Often in the form of races or games.
- Further warm up / practice exercise. Perhaps punching and blocking, kicks, or throws.
- Lesson. Our instructors choose a technique to teach or improve upon.  What is taught depends on the students present, but may follow a theme of lessons taught over a few weeks.
- Syllabus / competition practice.  Time to practice for gradings or upcoming competitions.
- Tabs / demonstrations / Gradings.  At the end of the class, students may have the opportunity to perform a technique in front of the class (and their parents!), or grade for a Tab.
- 8pm finish. Rei off, and a quick game (time allowing, and if the class have been well behaved!)

Junior students gain 'Tabs' as they learn each move (or set of moves) for their next belt.  These are ticked off in their syllabus booklet as they are able to perform each one sufficiently well.  After completing all the Tabs in the belt, they must then revise and improve the whole belt ready for grading.  All students are 'pre-graded' before a grading date is set.  Junior gradings take place at the end of a normal club lesson, and timings depend on the individual students.

SENIORS:

Senior classes follow a similar format:

- Pre-lesson warm up. Students can get on the mat and start warming up while the juniors leave the hall.
- Rei on, and any announcements.
- Warm up.  Generally short, consisting of ballistic exercise and dynamic stretching, designed to prepare the body for jujitsu (not a whole exercise routine).
- Basic practice exercises : designed to improve balance, coordination, stance, and footwork.
- Lesson : Sensei's choice.  What is taught depends on which students are present, but may follow a theme of lessons that continue for a few weeks, giving time for students to improve in that particular area.
- Free time.  For grading syllabus, revision, or competition practice (Groundwork / Random attacks etc)
- Weapons / open hand kata.  The last 10 or 15 minutes of the lesson are dedicated to kata, and cool down time.
- 10pm finish and rei off.
