Ground fighting
PATRON:
- Founder of PARK LODGE Judo Ju-Jitsu Kai Sensei Chris Harvey, 3rd Dan Judo, 5th Dan Ju-Jitsu
SYLLABUS:
Ground fighting has always been an essential part of judo skill, but has become better known in recent years with the increase of Brazilian jujitsu clubs that specialise in this area.
Ground fighting involves much more than using strength to hold your partner down. There are many techniques to master, and they must be understood in order to control a larger opponent on the ground. As well as hold-downs (holding your opponent to the ground), there are various arm locks and strangles to learn. Groundwork becomes a game of chess, each player trying to out think and outsmart his/her opponent.
Some students wish to compete in ground fighting competitions, but groundwork is an essential skill for self defence also.
