About Park Lodge JJK

The Park Lodge philosophy

Park Lodge aims to encourage all students to make the most of their potential, and enjoy their achievements. We believe that everyone has the right to learn some self defence, or to come along and keep fit. We have taught people from every walk of life, with a whole range of physical shapes, sizes and capabilities. Come along - let us help you see what you can achieve.

Jujitsu

Jujitsu is a Japanese martial art involving a range of techniques, including throwing, kicks, punches and locking techniques.  It is sometimes referred to as the 'Mother Art' and there are many variations, schools, and systems based on it.  Judo is a sport version of jujitsu, and it also forms the basis of Brazilian jujitsu.

At Park Lodge we teach a full range of the techniques of traditional jujitsu, giving our students a good grounding in all of the basics.  Different classes or lessons may concentrate on different aspects of jujitsu, with some dedicated to judo or groundwork.  In addition, we give our students time in to practice the particular areas that they most enjoy.

Practising Jujitsu at Park Lodge is an excellent way to get fit, increasing your strength, stamina and flexibility. At the same time you will learn some valuable self defence techniques. Many of the techniques do not rely on strength, so you don’t have to be a muscle man to take part! In fact, many of our students, and instructors are women.

Park Lodge

Park Lodge JJK originated in Wickford, Essex, and now has several venues. We are affiliated to the British Ju-Jitsu Association Governing Body (BJJAGB).

Head of Park Lodge is Senior Sensei Chris Harvey (5th Dan), who has been involved in both Judo and Jujitsu for many years, and teaches at the Essex clubs. He teaches understanding before strength, skill before force, mind and body working together. The Buckinghamshire clubs are run by Sensei Holly Hudson, whose interest also lies in understanding technique rather than in the use of brute force.
